Traffic Calming Plans for Ambrosden Village: Updated January 2021
Ambrosden Parish Council, working with Oxfordshire County Council addressed concerns about vehicles speeding in the area. An initial informal public consultation on the measures was held in February 2020 (please see details below). In response to the feedback received during the initial consultation phase, some changes were made to the plans. These included additional vehicle activated speed signs to be placed at Merton Road, Ploughley Road and Blackthorn Road. These would alert drivers to their own speed, remind them to slow down as necessary and also record speeding trends to allow us to monitor the impacts of the new scheme.
Additional proposed measures included the installation of road narrows with road humps, a new build out with round top humps and the removal of an existing traffic island and installation of a new build up along Ploughley Road. Full plans and locations are detailed below. These measures (unlike the VAS) were subject to a full public consultation arranged by the Highways Department before work began.
The plan was funded between Oxfordshire County Council Highways department, Ambrosden Parish Council and a grant from the District Councillor Priority Fund. The total cost for the scheme, including the VAS, was estimated at £56,064.55. Of this, the Parish Council contributed £29,222.68.
